I’ve always rooted for the underdogs.
Underdogs are seen as the least likely to succeed. They’re smaller, weaker, slower, and overall the slightly pathetic opponent. They aren’t favored and they aren’t expected to win so when they do, it feels like a piece of rebellion, and I love to stick it to the man.
My intention with this blog is to share my thoughts on different topics relating to mental health. I am not the most traditionally qualified individual. I do not have an expensive, graduate level education. I am shit at editing and I rarely use punctuation correctly. I have a terrible attention span and often move on to a new topic before finishing the first one. But, with all this in mind, I love to ask why and I love to find answers. I am constantly hungry, and constantly pushing to learn more. And I’m passionate about underdogs, because I am one myself.
I’m not going to share an artistic sob story of my life and the mental burdens I carry. I’m not going to sell myself to show my voice belongs here. All I can say to my fellow losers, is I see you. I see the internal battle to keep yourself from burning your world to the ground. I see the distress that happens when your brain decides it wants to have a bad day. I see the weight, latched around your ankle, dragging behind you while everyone shoots forward way, way ahead. I will be here to tell you that it makes you stronger, and yes I know the disgust that rises when you hear that. It’s what people who have had it easy like to say.
We didn’t ask for this fight and we didn’t ask for the circumstances that got us here, but they’re here and I refuse to break under them. One thing that can’t be taken away is my grit, and grit is earned not bought. I had a friend once tell me that everyone is at different levels. She explained it as some people experience so much they drop into a different depth, while the people who’ve had it easy remain up top, on the surface.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been scared of the deep end.
